Aileen learns to make a new recipe every week. Most recipes are ones she’s been meaning to make for years, but never got around to. Join in by making the one Aileen makes, or dig in to your own personal catalog of aspirational recipes.

easier tomato soup

Easier Tomato Soup

Tomato soup might be the perfect food. It tastes good with grilled cheese, you can put hot sauce in it and you can drink it out of a mug when you run out of clean spoons and bowls (which happens around here more than I would like to admit). Read more

Carrot Cake

Carrot Cake

I made this beautiful carrot cake because I am going to an Easter Brunch, like an adult. I was originally planning to sleep for as long as possible then eat cereal then go to a bunch of movies then go home and go back to bed.  Read more

bowl of goodness

Bowl of Goodness

This is a variation on a recipe from the Whole Foods app. The app used to let you put in an ingredient you had in your kitchen and it would offer recipes you could make. The original version of this recipe was called mighty bowl of goodness, let me go see if it still exists somewhere in the internet. It does! And it was called Mighty Bowl of Goodness. I can’t believe I remembered the name! Looking back on it I realize that I never even came close to making it the way it was prescribed. One, I hate kale. Two, I have no idea what Bragg Liquid Aminos are. They sound expensive. Read more

spicy tomato sausage linguine

Spicy Tomato Sausage Linguine

I made this spicy tomato sausage linguine from ingredients I found in my house and a recipe I found in a notebook. I had some of the stuff the recipe called for and the rest of it I sort of made up as I went along. I took some pretty basic notes and then remade it a few weeks later and it was still good! Chicken Orzo Soup

Chicken Orzo Soup

Spring is here and soup season is slowly slipping away. But not so fast, summer! This week I made chicken orzo soup with a bunch of lemons from the huge tree that grows in the parking lot of my apartment building and some dill I salvaged from a plant that is slowly dying on my kitchen window sill. Fridge Sandwiches

As usual, I was so busy congratulating myself for keeping up with the recipe challenge that I totally fell down on the job for this week. So I am going to share with you one of the things I do to keep myself fed that doesn’t involve a trip through the drive thru. Fridge Sandwiches! Read more

Limoncello Vodka Collins

Limoncello Vodka Collins

We haven’t made drinks in awhile. Don’t get me wrong, we have been drinking but it’s been wine and vodka sodas. So this weekend Felicia and I juiced some lemons, bought some limoncello and made a pitcher of Contessa Garten’s (Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa) Limoncello Vodka Collins. I also made some roasted nuts but they were kind of gross so they are in the picture but don’t bother with them. Read more

Chicken Soft Tacos

Look at me, I’m consistently cooking! For most adults this is not a big deal but if you have been following this recipe challenge you will know that the challenge has been real. This week I made chicken soft tacos and I even cut up produce.

I know. Will miracles never cease? Read more

Corn and Chicken Sausage Chowder

Corn and Chicken Sausage Chowder

I made more soup! And this one is very good. Corn and Chicken Sausage Chowder is another frankenrecipe. I really need to start following recipes again because it is a lot of work to write out your own recipes with ingredients and directions. Here are my directions: peel, cut, boil, stir, try not to burn yourself. Just kidding, I’ll write better ones below. Read more

tomato and sausage soup

Tomato and Sausage Soup

I live in Southern California so I will refrain from complaining about the cold. Here, relative to much of the United States, we are not cold. We are a bit chilly. Perfect time for tomato and sausage soup.

That being said, all I want to eat is soup. And ice cream. It’s weird. And no, I am not pregnant. Read more
