Civics 101 is another NPR podcast born from a major upheaval in American life. Trump got elected, NPR listeners flipped our common lid and Civics 101 was born. The first episode aired on January 19th, 2017. You do the math.
It began as a bit more, “Can Trump do that?” but has become much more focuses on how the American system of government works. This past week, the hosts talked about the history and present role of the draft. Older son is 23 so he has 3 years left in the draft pool. Six has 20 years until he is excused from selective service (if the laws stay the same as they are now). The draft wasn’t anything I really thought about until some random medical professional said, “Hey, it’s a boy!” and I’ve worried over it ever since.
Is this podcast worth listening to? Yes. Should you go back to the beginning? Probably not. I would suggest starting with the newest and moving your way backward. Going back to January of 2017 isn’t a time travel I have any interest in and I imagine neither do you.
