Lucy McBath won the House seat once held by disgraced HHS Secretary Tom Price and the just generally disgraceful Newt Gingrich. I’ll repeat it. Lucy McBath won the House seat once held by Newt Gingrich. Gingrich held the seat for 20 years and used it to empower Republicans by dividing the country. The seat was also held for 12 years by Tom Price. Remember him? He was Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services. Let’s let wikipedia tell us how his political story ended:
“On September 29, 2017, Price resigned as head of HHS following criticism of his use of private charters and military aircraft for travel. In July 2018, the HHS inspector general urged the HHS to recoup at least $341,000 from Price for wasteful expenditures.”
McBath won the seat of two prominent DC swamp-dwellers and was sworn in with the rest of the 116th Congress on January 3rd, 2019.
In addition to being a gun control advocate, McBath supports expanding Medicare, supporting reproductive rights and making certain middle-class tax cuts permanent.
Although an activist her entire life, McBath has never held public office and therefore has no voting record. But she does have resilience and that will serve her well during her first term in Congress.
