Camping Isn't For Everyone

Camping Isn’t For Everyone

I have what I hope is a cordial relationship with nature. It seems intent on killing me, therefore I stay indoors. I like being indoors. Sarah Vowell described herself as indoorsy and I think that is the best description of a personality trait ever. Read more

Women who Travel Podcast Love

Women Who Travel

One of the things I love about writing this blog, is that it gives me an excuse to find new podcasts.  We decided to write about travel this week and I quickly realized that I didn’t have any podcasts in my repertoire that are related to travel.  What? That’s a huge gap in my listening library. I love to travel and also recognize that traveling as a woman comes with some unique challenges.   Read more

Letting go

Letting Go

My oldest graduated from high school at the beginning of June.  His final year of high school was challenging and it was a major relief, for both of us, that that time in his life is over.  Rather than jumping straight into college, he’s decided to take a semester off before deciding what to do next. Booking.com

I have booked a room while walking through Disneyland with a 4 year old in the stroller. That is no small feat made much easier by Booking.com. Maybe too easy. I have booked so many rooms at the last minute simply to avoid a long morning drive…it’s embarrassing, but true. Booking.com is up there with Venmo and Yelp as apps that have made my life easier. So I knew I needed a last minute reservation and there’s music festivals and BET Experience going on in Southern California this weekend and I thought, “Well, we’ll spend a nice weekend in Monrovia. It’ll be fine.” Then Booking had a room at the Westin Bonaventure a groovy hotel built in 1974 (and absolutely looks it) and I grabbed it! It is horribly expensive and I totally can’t afford it but I really wanted to work and I really didn’t want to stay in Monrovia (although Monrovia has a lovely Old Town and it would have been fine). Suck it up, Buttercup

Six and I recently took a trip to visit family in Austin. We have only ever flown together once before and that was a nightmare best left unshared. I asked Older Son for some travel tips since he travels all the time for work and fun. Older Son is not one to give away his secret tips but he did give me a good one. He said that he often gets Southwest First Class and I said that isn’t a thing and he said that Southwest First Class is when you get either a row to yourself or the middle seat free. Read more
