Trivial Warfare

Trivial Warfare

When my marriage was coming apart, I left my house every weekend to drive about a hundred miles to work in a beachside community called Ventura. I stayed all weekend and once a month Six came with me. It was not ideal but spending the weekends, all day for two days, in a house with someone you used to love but now fought with all the time was worse so off I went. I did this for about a year. On top of the stress of getting divorced was the fact I have a phobia regarding driving. It isn’t as bad as it used to be since I FINALLY started taking the antidepressants my doctor prescribed but it wasn’t and still isn’t my favorite activity. Driving is both boring and something you have to pay careful attention to at all times.

One of the things that helped with the drive there and back was podcasts and my favorite by far was Trivial Warfare. I love trivia. My parents bought the board game Trivial Pursuit when it was first widely available in the 80s. I also like watching Jeopardy.

That being said, I am not all that great at trivia especially since I know less than zero about sports.

No matter. This podcast is fun and well paced. The host, Jonathan Oakes, has a regular cast of friends who are excellent at both trivia and podcasting. What a great intersection! Ben, Carmela and Chris drop by regularly along with many guest players who have experience in many different facets of the trivia universe, from appearances on Jeopardy to their own trivia podcasts to people who just really love playing trivia. It’s a hoot and a half and if you aren’t careful, you just might learn something.

I can’t recommend this podcast enough and if you have a spare dollar or 12 think about supporting the show.
